Stella Prize for Female Australian Authors

The shortlist for the 2018 Stella Prize have been announced. One of the shortlisted authors is Shookoofeh Azar, a refugee from Iran now living in Australia.

Read her amazing story here https://goo.gl/GwLbRe or from our database here

This book is an extraordinarily powerful and evocative literary novel set in Iran in the period immediately after the Islamic Revolution in  1079. Using the lyrical magic realism style of classical Persian storytelling, Azar draws the reader deep into the heart of a family caught in the maelstrom of post-revolutionary chaos and brutality that sweeps across an ancient land and its people. Azar is the consummate storyteller, using the panoply of Persian mythical and mystical entities to bring life, humour, hope, resignation , and profound insights to the characters and their world.

This is a senior fiction book that is on order for the school library.

Library Lovers Day

We celebrated Library Lovers' Day all week!

We had a great display of Romance Books available for loan. And everyone who borrowed a book on Thursday received a Library Lovers' Day chocolate or lollypop!

Representatives of each PC wrote a letter celebrating what they love about our library.

Some quotes from our letters:
“It is because of you that I can embrace my love of books in a world consumed with technology, and for this I thank you.”

“At home or in noisy areas isn’t always  the best place to study, do assignments or homework and that’s why one particular facility at St Ursula’s has been very helpful for my classmates and I, and that’s the library.”

“You are, by far, truly the most magical place on earth. You are my escape to a whole new universe, away from chaos, away from stress, away from harm.”

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one”.

George RR Martin
